Alexandra L. Baxter, M.S., LAPC, NCC., is an associate-level counselor in the State of Georgia and a Nationally Certified Counselor, who graduated from Georgia State University with her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2015. Alex believes in providing a unique and welcoming environment for her clients, in which she promotes clients’ healing by encouraging independence and providing safety within the therapeutic relationship.

Alex has over ten years of experience working with children in a variety of settings. She has experience as a nanny and an assistant pre-school teacher. Most recently, she worked as a counselor intern at Laurel Heights Hospital, a psychiatric residential treatment facility, counseling children and adolescents struggling with a variety of issues i.e., mood instability, physical and verbal aggression, sexually inappropriate behaviors, grief, trauma, poor social skills, anxiety, oppositional defiance. Alex conducted individual, family, and group counseling sessions for each child as well as facilitated parent training and created a skill-building curriculum to be used across the campus. Prior to Laurel Heights Hospital, Alex was a counselor intern at DeKalb Medical Hospital, where she conducted assessments of and provided resources to patients in the emergency department. Currently, Alex is open to seeing clients of all ages, with primary interest in working with young children, pre-teens, and those whom have experienced developmental trauma.

Alex practices from a client centered perspective in which she strives to provide acceptance, empathy, and compassion for each client. She believes that each client needs a space in which they feel safe, accepted, and encouraged in order to heal and reach their full potential. Through the use of play, art, and talk therapy, Alex works in collaboration with the client and their family to identify goals, process through difficulties, and establish a toolbox of skills to further promote health and wellness, personalized to each client’s needs. She incorporates creative and expressive interventions that allow the client to explore their emotions, identify their strengths and interests, and elicit their inner courage and capability that may otherwise feel trapped inside. Alex promises to welcome your child with open, accepting, and encouraging arms as they begin their journey to wellness!

Ms. Baxter works under the Direction & Supervision of Thrive Counseling's Clinical Director E. Amanda Dellinger-Allen, LPC, as well as the Clinical Supervision of Diane Levy, PhD, NCC, LPC, CPCS, ACS while at Thrive.
