Alysa E. Hughes, MS, LAPC, NCC is a licensed associate professional counselor in the state of Georgia, as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor. She has a warm and empathetic approach, and strives to create a safe and supportive environment for each individual client. Alysa’s goal is to allow each client to feel heard, accepted, and empowered.

In 2013-2014, Alysa completed her internship at Sheltered Cove Counseling Center in which she primarily counseled adolescents and adults. At Sheltered Cove, she co-led several adolescent girls’ process groups. Further, she gained experience with various issues such as: depression, self-harm, ADHD, mood-disorders, LGBTQ issues, eating disorders, anxiety, and anger issues.

Alysa earned her Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University. Prior to working at Thrive Counseling Center, she worked as a child and adolescent therapist at Family Counseling Associates of North Georgia and The Creative Spark Child Counseling Center. During her time there, Alysa worked with a range of client issues, some of which included: anxiety, divorce, anger, grief, self-esteem, depression, and trauma. Also, she gained experience using creative and unique interventions.

Alysa believes that each client has a unique story to tell. Further, she believes each client needs support, an understanding ear, and an encouraging environment. Alysa uses a client-centered approach in order to achieve each of these standards. In addition, she believes it's important to work with the family system to better understand each individual client.

Alysa works with all ages, however, specializes in children, adolescents, and young adults. She is trained in Play Therapy, Filial Therapy, and Art Therapy and actively pursuing her Registered Play Therapist certification. She maintains professional memberships with The American Counseling Association, Licensed Professional Counselor Association of Georgia, and The Association of Play Therapy.

Ms. Hughes works under the Direction & Supervision of Thrive Counseling's Clinical Director E. Amanda Dellinger-Allen, LPC while at Thrive.
