meet the therapist

Ashley Arryale Jones, M.Ed is a Master level therapist currently working towards an Associate Professional Counselor (APC) license in the state of Georgia. In addition, she is currently working towards certification as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) and as a National Certified Counselor (NCC). Ashley received a Master of Education in Professional Counseling from the University of West Georgia in 2020. During her graduate studies, Ashley worked as an intern for University of West Georgia’s Comprehensive Community Clinic (CCC) where she received additional training and supervision in Play therapy. While working at the CCC, she counseled children dealing with trauma, depression, truancy, social and interpersonal issues, behavioral, and adjustment disorders. Ashley also interned at Cristo Rey High School, in Atlanta, GA, where she worked with adolescents dealing with social emotional learning (SEL), abuse, depression, anxiety, and conduct disorders. Ashley believes that being able to enter the world of the child/adolescent helps develop a free-flowing therapeutic relationship that yields trust. She also believes healing and growth is multifaceted and should be experienced uniquely for every client.

In addition to her internship experiences, Ashley facilitates group sessions as a contractor for the Diversion Center. Some of the groups Ashley facilitates are Anger Management, Family Violence, and ASAM. In addition, Ashley also works as an Aftercare Facilitator for substance abuse clients at Spectrum Health Services. In this setting, she prepares individuals to be positive and functional members of society after reintegration by providing a Cognitive Behavioral curriculum to help reduce recidivism. These experiences have allowed Ashley to see first-hand how the impact of familial trauma can influence a family’s ability to function cohesively and promote the mental health of all members. Ashley fully believes in the importance of collaborating with the parents/caregivers in her work with children and teens, so that all members of the family can find healing together.

Ashely believes in a strong therapeutic alliance, as it demonstrates that the counselor understands the different challenges that the client may face. She has proven that she is able to stand alongside her clients in their own personal experiences, by validating their experience while simultaneously challenging them to consider alternative ways of coping. Approaching clients from a collaborative perspective where the clients are the experts in their own lives has aided in her ability to connect and relate with them, which encourages clients to naturally show and express feelings in an environment of safety and compassion.

Ms. Jones works under the Direction of Olivia Prewett-Scott & the Clinical Supervision of E. Amanda Dellinger-Allen, Ed.S., M.S., LPC, NCC, CPCS, RPT-S while at Thrive.
