Avedon D. Elliott, M.S., LPC, NCC, is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia, as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor. She believes in having a person-centered relationship with her clients; viewing client’s present upsetting/thoughts/feelings and struggles from their point of view. Avedon believes in creating a safe environment for all of her clients in order for them to feel secure in expressing their present conflicts; while at the same time gaining coping skills to improve in their overall daily functioning.

Prior to working at Thrive Counseling Center, Avedon worked as a Clinical Therapist at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Southwest Florida (CAC) in Ft. Myers, Florida. During her time at the CAC, Avedon provided counseling to children who were victim to various traumas (physical/sexual abuse/neglect; exposed to substances and family violence). Avedon also has experience working with children/adolescents/teens in unhealthy relationships. While working at the CAC Avedon facilitated parental support groups for the parents/caregivers of the children who were victim to various traumas.

In the time that Avedon was working on her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling; she also worked as a counselor for adults struggling with substance abuse issues…so she has experience in the chemical dependency field as well.

Avedon has 12 years of experience working with children/teens/adolescents and adults struggling with various behavioral health issues; and is open to working with children (and adults) of all ages. Her approach is built on empathy, being genuine and supportive; while at the same time providing suggestions/techniques and insight on the client’s present and daily struggles. Avedon is a firm believer in the person-centered therapy philosophy in “meeting the client where they are at.”

Avedon incorporates creative interventions in her therapy sessions; which includes (expressive arts, relaxation techniques, coping skills games/activities, role-modeling and psychodeducation).
