meet the therapist

Josh P. Martin, MA, is a Master’s Level Therapist working under the license of Diane Levy. Josh is returning to Thrive after a two year hiatus from therapy in which he helped further develop the youth program at Escalade Rock Climbing Gym. Josh served as the Head Coach for the program and brought a sense of uniqueness to the organization by providing a space where kids felt safe to be themselves while simultaneously motivating each other through difficult practice regiments and training programs. Prior to his work at Thrive Counseling Center three years ago, Josh diligently worked at Willowbrooke’s Child and Adolescent Outpatient Program in Villa Rica, GA as a clinical intern. In his time at Willowbrooke he had the opportunity to work with resilient youngsters who came to the facility with a variegated array of clinical concerns and needs. Josh provided both group and individual therapy for children and adolescents struggling with substance abuse, anxiety, depression, psychotic disorders, autism spectrum disorder, existential crises, self-harm and injury, self-esteem issues, ADHD, sexual abuse and trauma, and physical abuse.  Josh approaches therapy from an existential and humanistic perspective and views his clients as being situated along a continuum of growth and a never ending search for meaning and purpose. Additionally, he believes that human strife and struggle are best understood and approached from a holistic perspective that takes into account human relations, cultural background, societal norms, intrapersonal beliefs and values, family relationships, and biological factors and tendencies. All of this is to say that Josh strives to view and understand each client as an individual delicately placed within a nexus of societal, cultural, and intrapersonal factors that invariably affect and shape each client’s perspective and outlook towards life.  Josh enjoys working with children and adolescents of all ages/genders as he views this age range as being profoundly pivotal in an individual’s life. While having a deep appreciation and respect for human suffering, Josh also brings a fun and creative spin to the art of therapy and believes that meeting a child where he or she is at is absolutely crucial to the therapeutic process. Additionally, Josh specializes in working with males from 10-18 years of age struggling with depression, self-esteem issues, anxiety, and those wrestling with what it means to be a male in the ever changing landscape of today's society. Josh is beyond happy to be returning to the Thrive Counseling team and, like all of our therapists, brings a unique touch to the table. He promises to meet each client where he or she is at and provide kind, patient, empathic, and creative therapeutic care while doing so.

Mr. Martin works under the Direction Olivia Prewett-Scott & the Clinical Supervision of Diane Levy, Ph.D., NCC, LPC, CPCS, ACS while at Thrive.
