Sarah Brainard, LMSW, is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) currently pursuing her credentialing as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and certification as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). She received her bachelor's degree in Psychology from New Mexico State University and her Master of Social Work degree from Kennesaw State University. Sarah has experience in a variety of settings with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults.

During her graduate program, Sarah interned at the Cobb County School District in the social work department where she gained experience conducting individual and group counseling sessions with elementary through high school students on truancy issues, and providing academic support, and emotional and behavioral support.  Sarah has also worked with adults at Ridgeview Institute in the inpatient hospital substance detox unit and women’s trauma unit.  This experience allowed her to facilitate and co-facilitate individual, group, and family therapy sessions.  Additionally, Sarah interned at Price Counseling where she conducted individual counseling sessions with the participants of the DUI and Drug Accountability Court Program.

One of the catalytic experiences leading to Sarah’s pursuit of her therapy license was her time with the Division of Family and Children Services as a foster care case manager.  Sarah had the privilege of serving and learning about the needs of children and families across the state of Georgia.  This experience prompted Sarah to return to complete a graduate degree to gain greater knowledge, experience, and skills in the field of therapy to better address the needs of the clients she serves.

Throughout her time in the field of social work, Sarah has gained experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solutions-Focused Brief Therapy, and Reality Therapy, but flexibly uses a variety of modalities to best meet the needs of her clients.  Sarah utilizes a person-centered, strength’s based approach and believes in creating a safe and supportive environment for children of all ages.  Sarah also believes in the power of creativity and play as a means of communication for children.  Sarah is passionate about the holistic health of her clients and is an advocate for a healthy, strong, united family unit.  Sarah’s love for children and healthy families extends outside of the professional environment, where her and her husband direct the children’s ministry at their church.

Ms. Brainard works under the Direction of Olivia Prewett-Scott and the Clinical Supervision of E. Amanda Dellinger-Allen, Ed.S., M.S., LPC, NCC, CPCS, RPT-S, CTS, CAMS while at Thrive.
