Sera Funda Turgut, M.Ed., LAPC, NCC is an Associate Professional Counselor in the State of Georgia and a National Certified Counselor whose focus is on the therapeutic relationship and the empowerment of clients Her goal in therapy is to provide an atmosphere where clients feel unconditionally accepted, so that they can feel safe to explore and express themselves completely and in the ways they need most. Sera believes that healing begins with acceptance and an open heart; as this takes place, she teaches clients a variety of coping skills. It is through the acquisition of these skills that clients develop confidence in their own capacity to nurture themselves, becoming self-empowered and resilient.

Prior to working at Thrive Counseling, Sera worked as a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) clinical intern at Skyland Trail, a nationally recognized nonprofit that provides residential mental health treatment. She also led a variety of groups on the following topics: DBT skills, depression, bipolar disorder, relationships, codependency, meditation, healthy lifestyles, and women’s issues. In addition, Sera has been foundationally trained in DBT by The Linehan Institute’s Behavioral Tech. Prior to Skyland Trail, Sera was a clinical intern at Positive Impact Health Centers, a nonprofit that primarily provides mental health care to people living with HIV, LGBT+ clients, and low-income or homeless clients. Throughout her graduate studies and clinical internships, Sera has been and continues to tutor students in English at the elementary and middle school levels.
