Stephanie M. Looper, M.Ed., NCC, is a graduate from the University of Georgia’s Master’s of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. She is working towards successfully completing the requirements to become a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) in the state of Georgia. Throughout her graduate education, Stephanie’s studies emphasized play therapy and expressive arts therapy. Stephanie’s aim is to create a healing relationship that empowers clients to grow in a warm, inclusive and nurturing environment.

Stephanie began her journey encouraging healthy play and learning habits with toddlers at the Child Development Center at Berry College. Also, while pursuing her BA, she interned at the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia. Here, she gained experience with issues like trauma, anxiety and depression. After graduation, she dedicated a year before attending UGA to spread some magic as a cast member at Walt Disney World. Prior to working at Thrive, Stephanie worked as a clinical intern at a private practice in Athens, Georgia. She gained experience with a variety of mental health issues like mood disorders, self-harm, grief, aggression, adoption, career, parenting skills, behavioral issues, chronic illness, identity concerns and family/relationship dynamics. With each of her life experiences, she found a greater passion for counseling services. She hopes to use that passion to help children, adolescents and families find their strength to overcome life’s obstacles.

Stephanie sees clients and families of all ages for a collaborative and holistic therapeutic experience. She practices from a person-centered approach with an emphasis on artistic expression and the therapeutic relationship. She provides an individualized treatment plan comprised of traditional talk therapy, play therapy, expressive arts therapy and mindfulness techniques. Her goal is to create a space of unconditional acceptance where the client feels understood, seen and cared for. In that space of healing, clients will find their strength and resiliency to meet their goals and work towards wellness.

Ms. Looper works under the Direction of Olivia Prewett-Scott & the Clinical Supervision of JoAnna White, Ed.D, LPC, RPT/S, CPCS while at Thrive.
